On a very wet Monday, April 24, CSG Managing Waste were joined at their North Farm site in Tunbridge Wells by the Calverley Cubs, who visited the transfer station and waste site to learn all about recycling.
This is the third recycling tour hosted by CSG Managing Waste, who welcomed several students and primary age children at both their Dartford and North Farm sites in 2022.
The trip began with the team donning hi-vis jackets before being given a quick tour of the site. All eighteen children were then treated to a demonstration from plant operative Toby, where they saw first-hand how CSG Managing Waste makes everything fit into the bins compactly, allowing them to limit how many trucks are put on the road and reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
“We use these unique experiences to educate the public of the importance of recycling, and to encourage positive future behaviours towards the environment. Despite the weather the tour was a success, with all children learning a lot about the inner workings of recycling.”
Another initiative highlighted on the tour was Managing Waste’s bag-splitting activities, where for the past few months the team has been opening black bags with a view to improve recycling opportunities and to review the mix of waste from domestic households. The project, which has been live since December 2022, has identified that around 50% of all waste from black bags which are split could have been recycled.
CSG Managing Waste oversee the operational maintenance for five sites within Kent, which are a mix of Transfer Stations and Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs), on behalf of Kent County Council.
